The Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEEC) – 4th Edition is open from January 29, 2021 until February 26, 2021.

This Individual Call is aimed at doctorates of any nationality or stateless persons with a background in any scientific area who wish to develop their scientific research or technological development activity in Portugal.

Applicants previously identify the host institution where they will develop their research plan. The selected doctorates are directly hired by the identified host institution , through FCT funding.

Applications are submitted electronically, in English, through the electronic platform to be made available soon.

Encontra-se aberto concurso para a atribuição de 2 (duas) Bolsas de Investigação no âmbito do Centro de Investigação em Média Digitais e Interação (DigiMedia), UIDB/05460/2020, com o apoio financeiro da Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia/MCTES, através de fundos nacionais. As bolsas de investigação destinam-se a estudantes que estejam a fazer o seu doutoramento, com um projeto de interesse estratégico e pertinente para a investigação do DigiMedia. As bolsas terão a duração de doze meses, com início previsto em março de 2021, eventualmente renovável por mais doze (12) meses. O montante da bolsa corresponde a €1074,64, conforme tabela de valores de subsídios mensais de manutenção, fixados no anexo I do Regulamento n.º 950/2019 e atualizados no contexto do OE2020. A este valor acresce o
seguro social voluntário e o valor da propina anual fixada para o programa doutoral em que o bolseiro se encontre inscrito, de acordo com a regulamentação aplicável em vigor. O concurso encontra-se aberto no período de 11 a 22 de janeiro de 2021.

SHAPES – Smart and Healthy Ageing through People Engaging in Supportive Systems
SHORT DESCRIPTION

SHAPES is an Innovation Action funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme involving a total of 36 partners from 14 European countries. The project aims at creating an integrated and interoperable platform that will bring together a wide range of digital solutions focused on improving the health, wellbeing, and independence of people as they get older. This platform will offer a network of large-scale interconnected digital services and products, that will empower older persons, families, and caregivers to solve real and meaningful problems. These solutions are intended for older persons facing a temporary or permanent reduction of functionality and capabilities, whether physical or psychological, but also to help those who are healthy to maintain their health and well-being for as long as possible.

The 4th call for project proposals within AlticeLabs@UA is open until 31 December 2020. Professors and researchers from the University of Aveiro (UA) are invited to submit proposals on R&D and Innovation topics of interest to both entities, UA and Altice Labs. These proposals must be significantly different from the ongoing R&D work and from innovative products already on the market.

The AlticeLabs@UA laboratory was created in July 2016 through a protocol signed between the Rectory of the University of Aveiro and Altice Labs. AlticeLabs@UA is located at the Department of Communication and Art (DeCA) and aims at the joint development of academic and scientific projects between the two entities, focusing on the following scientific and technological areas linked to: development of emerging Web services; IPTV and digital content; usability of services and apps; user experience; collaborative or social experience systems; the Internet of Things (IoT) area.

The University of Aveiro and the DigiMedia Research Centre open an international public notice for recruitment in the form of an Uncertain Term Work Contract, under the Portuguese Labour Code, a position for a Doctorate equivalent to Auxiliary Researcher for the exercise of scientific research in the scientific area of Communication Science and Technologies with a view to carrying out research in the field of User Experience, in the specificity of systems personalization.

The monthly payment corresponds to 3201,39 €.

It is the largest Portuguese collaborative Research & Development project within the area of Media. It’s called CHIC – Cooperative Holistic View on Internet and Content – and involved 3 years of work, more than 30 partners and stakeholders.

The closing seminar of CHIC will be held on December 11th, at 9:45 a.m., in an exclusively digital event, where the strengths of each of the 10 subprojects developed and pragmatised in pilots will be exposed.

CHIC – Cooperative Holistic View on Internet and Content (October 2017 – October 2020)

The CHIC – project, aimed to develop, test and demonstrate a wide range of new processes, products and services that have a significant impact on the audiovisual and multimedia sectors. These products by their nature will have a clear mobilizing effect on other important sectors of culture such as the cultural heritage, archives, books and publications or the performing arts.

The DigiMedia team was involved with major responsibilities in the pilot dealing with NLI – Natural Language Interaction for online navigation and cable distribution systems. The DigiMedia team main responsibilities will be on the technological mapping of NLI technologies, training and modelling, development and implementation of the technical solution, trial run and optimization in heterogeneous conditions, pilot deployment, pilot evaluation and dissemination actions.

On 11th December, 2020, at 11 a.m., within the scope of the Doctoral Programme Information and Communication in Digital Platforms, Professor Aida María de Vicente Domínguez from the University of Malaga will present the seminar “Big data and Communication: methodologies of capture and visualization of information”.

She has just coordinated the work “Specialized Communication in the XXI Century” at the McGraw Hill publishing. And she is a researcher in a national project on fakes news since January 2020, after finishing in December 2019 in the project “European media and construction”.

Fellipe Brasileiro, Professor at the Department of Communication and the Postgraduate Program in Communication at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), developed his post-doc research in DigiMedia together with Professor Ana Margarida Almeida within the E-health and Wellbeing research group (01/12/2019 – 30/11/2020).

On December 2, 2020, at 3:30 pm, Professor Fellipe will present an open online seminar entitled “Informational resilience and digital networks in health contexts” – Report of the experience as Invited Researcher at DigiMedia, which marks the end of his research stay at the University of Aveiro.

Fellipe Sá Brasileiro holds a PhD in Information Science and has been developing research activities related to health information and communication practices in digital environments. He is an adjunct professor at the Department of Communication and the Postgraduate Program in Communication at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), Brazil. He is a visiting professor (2019-2020) at the Department of Communication and Art at the University of Aveiro (UA), Portugal, and develops the research project “Informational resilience in digital social networks”, at the post-doctoral level, in collaboration with the E-Health and Wellbeing Research Group.

The 9th Iberoamerican Conference on Applications and Usability for Interactive TV (jAUTI’2020) will be hosted by the SocialiTV group of the DigiMedia Research Centre  in the University of Aveiro with the special participation of the Network on Applications and Usability of Interactive Digital Television (RedAUTI). Due to the current situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19), the conference will be held online on December 18, 2020 (FREE).

jAUTI 2020 accepts papers 4-6 pages (in the LNCS/CCIS one-column page format), both for ongoing work with preliminary results and mature or concluded research.

Lucía Ballesteros-Aguayo, Professor in the Audiovisual Communication and Advertising Department of the University of Seville (Spain), will be developing her research in DigiMedia together with Professor Vania Baldi within the Cyberculture research group for three months (01/10/20 – 30/12/20).

During her research stay, she will be focusing on the post-truth in times of pandemic, addressing latent issues in today’s digital society such as fake news, information manipulation, hoaxes or misinformation, and providing alternatives and detection mechanisms in relation to the so-called “alternative truths”. All of them, issues that concern public opinion and that are of great interest to supranational institutions such as the EU (see the Grupo de Trabajo East Stratcom, the Action Plan against Disinformation or the High Level Group (HLEG) on fake news and online disinformation).

Lucía Ballesteros-Aguayo is PhD in Journalism with a doctoral dissertation about Francoist press that obtained the maximum score, Outstanding Cum Laude. She is currently professor of Universidad de Sevilla and collaborates in research tasks with different international entities such as the National Documentation Institute, Innovation and Research on Education of Florence or the Institute for the history of Catholic Action of Rome. She has performed several research stays abroad and has a wide scientific production about press in totalitarian governments and their social impart, with special interest on fascisms between wars, where we can highlight “La guerra civil española contada por el fascismo italiano: el caso del periódico infantil de Mussolini, Il Balilla” in Ámbitos and “Los periódicos falangistas para la juventud de la posguerra” in Spagna Contemporanea.

The main goal of the event was to encourage the participation and interaction between researchers, the business sector and the public in general.
