DigiMedia invests in the academic education of undergraduate and postgraduate students, directly supporting 3 doctoral programs, 3 master’s degrees and 1 bachelor’s degree. DigiMedia collaborates with other UA Research Units and Departments in terms of teaching and supervising theses and dissertations, being a host institution for the development of student projects and thus contributing to the academic consolidation of these courses.

Doctorate in New Media

The study programme aims at the advanced training of specialists and researchers in the area of New Media, with the purpose of planning and carrying out research related to the study, design, development and validation of multimedia infocommunication applications and devices to support mediation of the activity of individuals and organisations in different human contexts (e.g. education, entertainment,health), drawing on the most updated knowledge regarding methods and techniques in the different dimensions of research work, and adopting an interdisciplinary perspective.

The Doctoral Program in Multimedia in Education aims to:

– deepen and structure advanced skills in academic and professional fields;
– develop interdisciplinary knowledge, as part of the synergies created by the studies in the applicant institution, appropriate to the analysis and intervention in situations of education and training and in which the multimedia features coulsd have an enhancing role;
– encourage the pursuit of research guided by standards of academic excellence and innovation with regard to its design, management and dissemination;

Doctorate in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms

The doctoral program in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms, started in the academic year 2008/2009, aims to enable students to enhance knowledge at a doctoral level in the area of Communication and information Sciences on scenarios of technological mediation, and also provide skill development and training as independent researchers. The doctoral program is a strategic partnership on research between the UNiversities of Aveiro and Porto following the creation, in 2007, of the joint research unit DIGIMEDIA.

Master in Digital Game Development

The MDGD aims to provide advanced technical and scientific training in an area of fusion between Communication Sciences andTechnologies and Computer Science, promoting interdisciplinarity in an area where creativity and technique come together.

Master in Communication and Web Technologies

The Master in Communication and Web Technologies (MCTW) arises to meet the training needs of professionals qualified in the conceptualization, development, and evaluation of communication solutions supported by Web technologies, promoting the ability to investigate and propose future solutions, both in current and emerging technologies.

In this master degree, students are challenged, based on the Project-Based Learning and Challenged Based Learning methodology, to present innovative technology and communication solutions in the context of services and applications based on Web technologies. In this context, the MCTW presents as overall aims of the study cycle, to develop or acquire skills in:

  • the conceptualisation of digital products supported by Web technologies;
  • the conceptualisation of responsive interfaces for Web services and applications;
  • User Experience interfaces assessment;
  • development of services and applications using the latest Web technologies;
  • conceptualisation and development of tangible interfaces, integrated with digital products for the Web;
  • assessment of digital products with the intent of making them accessible to all audiences;
  • development of strategies for valuing and promoting digital products for the Web.

Holders of a bachelor’s degree or legal equivalent in Communication Sciences and Technologies, Multimedia or Informatics, or other candidates who demonstrate consolidated skills in Web technologies can apply. These skills can be demonstrated with, at least, one of the following elements:

  • 9 ECTS in Web development;
  • 30 hours of professional training in Web development, duly proven;
  • Professional experience demonstrated through a portfolio.

Master in Audio-visual Communication for New Media

The Master in Audiovisual Communication for New Media (MCANM) emerges as a response to the most recent developments in the audiovisual area, namely the growing proliferation of new means of broadcasting audiovisual signal, of which smartphones, television/videocast solutions and others through the Internet, along with new interactive forms for the use and appropriation of these contents. In this context, the MCANM presents as the overall aims for the study cycle to develop students’ skills in the processes of preproduction and production of audiovisual content and their adaptation to new means of content transmission, through the development of various audiovisual projects for the New Media

The MCANM seeks to endow students with skills in pre-production, production and post-productions of audiovisual content for dissemination in new media. In this regard, it is sought that students achieve the following skills/learning outcomes:
LO1-Identify the role and relevance that audiovisual content plays in the current scenario based on the dissemination in new media and on consumption in mobility;
LO2-Apply the principles of cinematography, post-production and special effects in the production of audiovisual content;
LO3-Pre-produce and produce crossmedia and transmedia narratives;
LO4-Investigate strategies for the dissemination, publication and transmission of audiovisual content on social platforms and networks;
