CALL FOR PAPERS

SLERD 2021 is proud to invite colleagues – researchers and practitioners – from all over the world to share the efforts concerning the development of smart learning ecosystems and, contributions on how to build together a brilliant post pandemic future, where smart learning ecosystems and smart education will be even more central in the education of future citizens, and in the promotion of social innovation and territorial development.

Please Note: The intention of the organizing committee is to hold SLERD 2021 as a blended conference with the possibility to alternatively attend it physically or virtually.
If the pandemic is not attenuated, as expected by June 2021, SLERD will take place in a fully blown virtual conference format such as the previous 2020 SLERD.

Topics of interests

Topics of interests can be grouped under three big themes: places for smart educationpeople in place centered design for smart educationsupportive learning technologies and tools for smart education.

Proceedings

Proceedings, as for previous editions, will be published by Springer in the Series Smart Innovation, Systems and Technologies that will be indexed by SCOPUS, EI-Compendex and Springerlink.
Extended version of selected papers will be also included in a special issue of IxD&A Journal (ISSN 1826-9745, e-ISSN 2283-2998) that is indexed by SCOPUS and Emerging Sources of Web of Science

SLERD welcomes short (max. 8 pages) and long contributions (max. 12 pages).

CALL FOR PAPERS AND ARTWORK

ARTECH 2021 – Hybrid Praxis – Art, Sustainability & Technology, is the 10th International Conference on Digital and Interactive Arts, this time hosted in the city of Aveiro, Portugal, from 13 to 15 October 2021

The goal of the conference is to promote the interest in the current digital culture and its intersection with art and technology as an important research field, but also as a common space for discussion and exchange of new experiences. It seeks to foster greater understanding about digital arts and culture across a wide spectrum of cultural, disciplinary, and professional practices. To this end, we cordially invite scholars, teachers, researchers, artists, computer professionals, and others who are working within the broadly defined areas of digital arts, culture and education to join us.

Main Topics

Authors are invited to submit papers from all areas related to digital art, but also art installations, interactive art or media artworks, for review by the international committee. Both research and applications papers are of relevance to ARTECH 2021.

A ARTECH 2021 – 10ª Conferência Internacional de Artes Digitais e Interativas, realizar-se-á em Aveiro (Portugal), entre os dias 13 e 15 de outubro, sob o tema Hybrid Praxis: Art, Sustainability & Technology.

O objetivo da conferência é promover o interesse na cultura digital e sua interseção com a arte e tecnologia como importante campo de investigação, mas também como um espaço comum de discussão e troca de novas experiências. A ARTECH 2021 procurará fomentar um diálogo sobre as artes e cultura digitais num vasto espectro de práticas culturais, disciplinares e profissionais.

Convidam-se professores, investigadores, artistas, designers, e outros profissionais que trabalham nas áreas amplamente definidas das artes digitais, cultura e educação, a participarem.

Tópicos

Os autores são convidados a submeter trabalhos de todas as áreas relacionadas com a arte digital, mas também instalações artísticas, arte interativa ou obras de arte mediáticas, para revisão pelo comité internacional. Quer os trabalhos de investigação quer os de aplicação são relevantes para a ARTECH 2021.

Journal for Communication Studies

Call for Papers for volume 15, nº1(29)/2022:

Information and Communication Technologies’ Role in the Preservation of Cultural Heritage

ESSACHESS – Journal for Communication Studies is the only French journal in communication sciences to promote in French and English language original contributions in the field of social, cultural, symbolic or economic communication.

This special edition is seeking contributions in English or French, either empirical or theoretical, considering the role, function and purpose of the information and communication technologies in contributing for the preservation of cultural heritage.

In doing so, contributors are invited to consider (but not limited to) the following goals:
1) contribute to the reflection around cultural heritage;
2) contribute to the reflection on the interaction between communication systems and cultural heritage;
3) analyze the role of individuals in preserving cultural heritage;
4) understand how individuals, as guarantors of the communication systems development, relate to cultural heritage.

The importance of a special issue in this topic is perceived as the way in which the various possible perspectives (cultural, technological, sociological, psychological, political, among others) can be found in the same and only document. This will be a space where several relevant authors from the fields, with common interests, will be able to contribute to something as important for Humanity, as is the cultural heritage.

Comunicar em saúde em tempos de pandemia

A Comunicação em Saúde é uma área científica interdisciplinar, que se caracteriza pelo cruzamento entre as Ciências da Comunicação e as Ciências da Saúde, nomeadamente a Medicina, mas também a Saúde Pública, a Enfermagem e a Psicologia (Zoller & Kline, 2008). Embora existam várias definições de Comunicação em Saúde, a influência de comportamentos é frequentemente apontada como um dos principais objetivos. De facto, a Comunicação em Saúde pretende envolver, capacitar e influenciar os indivíduos e as comunidades (Schiavo, 2014).

O Jornalismo de Saúde é, de acordo com a Organização Mundial de Saúde (1998), uma área da Comunicação em Saúde, tal como a comunicação interpessoal, a media advocacy ou a comunicação organizacional. Mas é também uma especialização do jornalismo. E, na verdade, embora se possa entender o Jornalismo de Saúde como uma pequena parte do jornalismo, este tem as suas especificidades, tal como acontece com o jornalismo económico, político ou desportivo. Hallin e Briggs (2014) defendem que o jornalismo médico e de saúde é, de certo modo, diferente do restante, pelo que os jornalistas que a ele se dedicam revelam frequentemente conceções mais didáticas e instrumentais do seu papel. Este carácter “híbrido” do Jornalismo de Saúde é uma das características que faz deste campo um objeto de estudo interessante para os estudos do jornalismo (Hallin & Briggs, 2014).

Nas últimas décadas, a emergência das doenças infeciosas e o aumento das doenças crónicas vieram reforçar o papel do jornalismo de saúde, na medida em que os media ocupam um lugar social central no retrato destas estórias. Os recentes surtos à escala mundial, de que são exemplo a Gripe A (2009) ou o Ébola (2014), e a pandemia de Covid-19 que atualmente atravessamos, vêm comprovar a necessidade de investir na Comunicação e Jornalismo em Saúde. Estes podem constituir-se como ferramentas essenciais de “combate” às epidemias, contribuindo para uma população mais informada e capacitada em termos de saúde e influenciando comportamentos individuais e coletivos. De facto, a Comunicação e o Jornalismo em Saúde podem ter um impacto significativo na população em geral, especialmente num contexto de crise de saúde pública, contribuindo para a promoção da saúde e a prevenção da doença.

Este volume da Comunicação e Sociedade debruça-se sobre a pandemia de SARS-Cov-2 e pretende juntar académicos de vários pontos do globo numa reflexão em torno da Comunicação e Jornalismo em Saúde no âmbito de uma crise sanitária global. Atualmente, a multiplicidade de plataformas de media, a alteração dos hábitos de consumo mediático, ou o aumento das notícias falsas e desinformação trazem renovados desafios ao campo da Comunicação e Jornalismo em Saúde. Neste sentido, é importante perceber o que está a ser feito, em termos nacionais e internacionais, para lidar com estes desafios e reforçar o papel da Comunicação em Saúde e do Jornalismo em Saúde.

EDIÇÃO E SUBMISSÃO

Comunicação e Sociedade é uma revista académica de acesso livre, funcionando de acordo com exigentes padrões do sistema de revisão de pares e opera num processo de dupla revisão cega. Cada trabalho submetido será distribuído a dois revisores previamente convidados a avaliá-lo, de acordo com a qualidade académica, originalidade e relevância para os objetivos e âmbito da temática desta edição da revista.

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before March 10, 2021, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by March 24, 2021 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines.Full chapters are expected to be submitted by July 8, 2021, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at https://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

The Journal of Digital Media & Interaction is an open access, international peer-reviewed research journal, published by DigiMediaUniversity of Aveiro.

JDMI is calling for articles and reviews within the scope of the Journal for the Number 10.

Articles

Articles should follow the Template Guidelines, and should be between 4000 and 7000 words.

Articles should be anonymized for double-blind peer review.

Reviews

JDMI also accepts reviews of books/films/games/apps of interest within the scope of the Journal.

Reviews should be between 1000 and 2500 words.

Review texts are published in the Reviews section and are not subject to peer-review.

Call for Research Dossiers or Thematic Number

The Journal of Digital Media & Interaction is an open access, international peer-reviewed research journal, published by DigiMediaUniversity of Aveiro.

JDMI  is calling for Research Dossiers, meaning, calls to publish a collaborative and comprehensive series of essays (between 4 and 8 articles, 4,000 to 7,000 words each) under a shared theme, for example: a specific theoretical or methodological approach; a technological advancement; a historical design analysis; a specific conference or festival, etc.

Dossiers/Thematic number should aim to make a clearly defined intervention within the rubric of the overall theme and will usually have a curated aspect that is explicitly discussed in a critical introduction.

Research Dossiers Guidelines
Journal of Digital Media & Interaction invites senior researchers to present research dossiers, following the below rules:

1 – At least one of the coordinators must have a PhD and work widely published. Also, they can’t be more than three.

2 – Dossier/Thematic number coordinators submit proposal to deca-jdmi@ua.pt (cc lidia@ua.pt; nzagalo@ua.pt ) of one to two pages, explaining the domain and focus, as the objectives and expected types of papers.

3 – After approval by the journal editors, coordinators can publish a Call for the Dossier, and the Journal will also publish a general public call for the number in which the dossier will be published.

4 – The process of submission and peer-review, is done by the journal, and follows all internal steps, e.g. double blind refereeing procedures.

5 – The coordinators will then use the results of the peer-review to do the final selection of papers to appear in the Dossier/Thematic number, which passes through a discussion with the journal editors. The articles not accepted in the Dossier/Thematic number, if complying with editorial guidelines and accepted by the scientific peers can be published outside of the dossier/Thematic number, depending on Editors decision.

6 – The coordinator can’t have more than one paper in the dossier.

7 – The coordinator writes a critical introduction to the dossier, which is published with the dossier.

8 – Situations omitted in this guide will be decided by the Editors.

Sensors (ISSN 1424-8220; CODEN: SENSC9) is the leading international peer-reviewed open access journal on the science and technology of sensors. Sensors is published semimonthly online by MDPI.

The Special Issue “Simplified Sensing for Ambient Assisted Living in Smart Homes”, that belongs to the section “Sensor Networks” is open for submission until 31 May 2021. Jorge Ferraz de Abreu (DigiMedia member) and Ángel García Crespo (member of the Advisory Board of DigiMedia) are Guest Editors of this special issue.

This Special Issue invites researchers to carry out studies and identify potential avenues to expand the studies on existing and develop new systems to improve the quality of life of older people in single-person households and also promotes the use of sensors and the Internet of Things (IoT) in a non-invasive way, in order to make elderly people feel safe, but at the same time comfortable at home.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. The 9th Iberoamerican Conference on Applications and Usability for Interactive TV (jAUTI’2020) will be hosted by the SocialiTV group of the DigiMedia Research Centre  in the University of Aveiro with the special participation of the Network on Applications and Usability of Interactive Digital Television (RedAUTI). Due to the current situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19), the conference will be held online on December 18, 2020 (FREE).

Call for Articles for the Special Issue on eHealth and Wellbeing

The Journal of Digital Media & Interaction is an open access, international peer-reviewed research journal, published by DigiMedia, University of Aveiro.

JDMI is inviting articles for the Special Issue on eHealth and Wellbeing, which is scheduled to be published on October 30, 2020. The deadline for submission of full articles is July 20, 2020. The Guest Editors are Ana Margarida Almeida, Rita Oliveira and Rita Santos.

This special issue is intended to promote a discussion of eHealth and wellbeing and its connection with the digital media field. We welcome papers that describe, from the technological, communicational and societal perspectives, innovative digital media solutions to improve health, wellbeing, quality-of-life, accessibility and active ageing, acknowledging the role of digital inclusion and the diversity of populations and health conditions that frame this topic.

Looking forward to receiving your contribution and creating a special issue that will provide readers with innovative insights on how eHealth and wellbeing are being explored by the digital media field.
