Smart EnterCom The project aims to develop new product concepts (and their proofs of concept) that can induce a paradigm shift regarding the current practices of corporate ICT usage and their associated fragilities in terms of information management capabilities as well as traceable and structured communication activities. With this objective in mind, the project purposes a set of articulated activities which reflect the understanding of the partners that such an objective can only be competitively achieved by developing articulated work in a number of diverse R&D topics which fall under two grand applicational objectives, namely: i) New collaborative interfaces, comprehending the R&D topics of: Webbased Communications, Context Aware Applications, Interfaces and Interaction Design ii) Adaptative management of rescources and systems, comprehending the R&D topics of: Emergent communications systems: SDN (software defined networks), BigData Read More
+TV4E This project, targeted to Portuguese senior population, aims to develop an interactive television (iTV) platform which automatically allows the enrichment of television experience with the integration of contents about public and social services. Television is the nearest and the preferred communication media of Portuguese seniors, with an average of 5 hours and 8 minutes per day in the population with 65 years and more. Often, seniors are in a disadvantaged position when accessing social support services for not knowing how to use them (i.e., medication discounts, medical appointments, etc.) becoming highly dependent of their caregivers. Along, and because the television is the nearest technology for the elderly, it can be an important technology supporter, to serve this population segment through features such as distance helping, the support of services that promote social interaction on the collective viewing, the provision of medical information or, as is the goal of this proposal, the information dissemination on public services relating to society. In that context, the target audience of the +TV4E project is the Portuguese senior population, and it considers their specific issues, needs and expectations in the use of public services, like the public social security and tax office, in order to develop an interactive television (iTV) platform which allows automatically the enrichment of television experience with the integration of contents about public and social services. For this platform, an interactive application (running in set-top boxes) will be designed, implemented and validated in order to enrich the television experience with personalized informative contents considering the user’s profile (age, geographic localisation, clinical condition, etc.). MS-SM The activities of both projects involve partners in a common purpose: developing and implementing innovative practices to improve teaching competencies and abilities to deliver occupational safety and health issues, through interdisciplinary pedagogical approaches. The projects also promote teachers’ active involvement and active participation in their own training, to test, experiment, develop and implement methodologies and tools in schools, enhancing the quality and relevance of the learning process. Finally, both MS – SM projects also pretend to create a shared space for professionals and educators from various countries, by sustaining training, discussion, exchange of innovative practices and free access to teaching/learning materials for safety and health at work, focusing on inclusive approaches and IT resources. SECURHOME The SECURHOME project aims to develop and validate a non-invasive device that through the daily behavior of a person can detect, using artificial intelligence techniques, if there’s a risk or not through their daily activity at home analyzing their movement, sound, temperature, use of the television, etc., collecting this data from a non-invasive device and through the use of different artificial intelligence techniques the system will be able to learn the behaviors and the possible variations that may occur. This way it will adapt to the user’s lifestyle and thus prevent any eventuality. Once the device detects any eventuality, it will send alerts to previously configured family members and to the nearest health care center, in this way an agile and strategic method of attention will be achieved for the affected tenant, thus avoiding having to resort to some type of direct communication for your alert. Also, the system will be highly configurable, allowing for days of absence, presence of pets, type of notification to relatives, health center to be notified, etc. In this way it is considered that for this project the main objective will be to help elderly people, providing them with greater independence and security in their home. Once the device is developed, two field studies will be carried out to validate the system and evaluate the acceptance of it by users while making a legal analysis of the implications that storage and analysis of personal data by systems may have on artificial intelligence. NAVSAFETY Emerging remote sensing technologies for real-time support of navigation safety in harbour areas has as main purpose develop innovative monitoring technologies, in almost real time, for harbour inlets. The developed system collects sea bottom data as bathymetric indicators and local hydrodynamics, namely, physical parameters like wave height, wave period, predominant direction and tide height. The NAVSAFETY project, by using remote sensing technologies and innovative image processing methodologies, enables make available information for a wide range of ocean wave conditions, including extreme (storm) events, conditions for which maritime safety issues become particularly pertinent. nowUP The nowUP project is based on a service that automatically creates summaries of TV programs supported by the buzz on social networks. Currently, viewers post a lot of TV program-related information on social networks while they are watching TV, especially during its key moments. Therefore, the social buzz has the potential to be used as an automatic editorial criteria. Having this premise in consideration, the nowUP service was developed with the main objective of automatically producing TV summaries of popular television programs (like football matches, talent or reality shows) based on the Twitter activity and integrate a part of that activity in the summary. A data-mining engine processes the activity of this social network looking for tweets associated with TV shows. Based on the program metadata it indexes the twitter activity; correlates tweets; and creates clusters of peaks, being the relevant clusters associated with the TV highlights. With this, the video engine automatically creates a full video summary (an edited sequence of TV highlights) and publishes it in an online platform. Read More
OverTV The OverTV project aims to develop a system for personalized notifications towards the TV ecosystem. The solution consists of a platform to generate, schedule, and monitor several types of messages delivered through the television set-top box (STB) and mobile devices. Because of the importance of segmentation and timings (which differ among households and individual user’s preferences), the management web application developed within the project allows customizable settings and scheduling of one-off and recurrent notifications regarding information, entertainment, services, as well as calendar and health reminders. Hence, the innovative contribution of this solution is the social focus and the proximity mediation using the TV ecosystem, more than being an automated bulk delivery mechanism. This solution aims to provide notifications managers (that can also be end-users, family members, and caregivers) with a tool to facilitate their daily lives and foster social dynamics, both at home and attending local events. NEXUS The Porject’s goal is the promotion of an Agenda around logistics and transport networks, focused on innovating, developing, demonstrating and starting the valorisation and exploitation of products and services, with strong export potential, and that address the main challenges and gaps identified in logistics in Portugal. NEXUS Agenda will create an ecosystem of 28 products and services for the Green and Digital Transition in the transport and multimodal sectors. At the centre of this ecosystem, the core product, is the NEXUS OPEN DATA COLLABORATION PLATFORM, comprising a set of applications and services (NEXUS FEDERATED APPLICATIONS AND SERVICES). Finally, the NEXUS HARWARE ASSETS component, of innovative hardware products that exploit IoT principles and promote important synergies between the collaborative open data platform and the other applications and services. Each of these will have its digital representation (digital twin), aimed at sharing and receiving data, intended to improve the performance of operations. Read More
FlavourGame FlavourGame is a project in the intersections of arts, technology, communication and health. It is conceived by an interdisciplinary team, and intends to reach kids aged 10-11 yers old for raising discussion and sense-making around the theme of nutrition (food choices). In concrete, we will develop a new serious game that invite real foods – with their flavors, aromas and texturas- into play, through an innovative tripartite communication model: based on conversation, participation and rich tangible interactions. This game will be conceived for an hybrid board game- combining a physical board and a tablet- through a user-centred-design approach, where kids are given voice and space for their own perspectives. At the end, players will be able to access a whole new social and impactful experience, just by the action of a “click”. Read More
