Géssica Sant’Ana

Collaborator

Biography

At the age of 12, Géssica approached the viola d’arco, immediately falling in love with the
instrument, and since then she has never stopped her studies. She attended a Protestant church where
there was an amateur orchestra, in which several of her friends played the violin, which sparked her
desire to play along with them. Her mother, realising her interest in music, encouraged her to study
with the conductor of the church orchestra, thus beginning her musical training. After a period
dedicated to music theory, it was time to choose an instrument. The orchestra conductor suggested the
viola d’arco, and, enchanted by the beauty of the instrument, she accepted the suggestion immediately,
making it her definitive choice.
After a few years of studying at music schools, both in her hometown and in São Paulo, Géssica
decided to go to university and, in 2012, started her Bachelor’s degree in viola. She spent four fantastic
years at university and graduated in 2015.
During her career as a viola player, she has taken part in various youth orchestras and music festivals,
both in Brazil and abroad. In his participation in youth orchestras, he has made lasting friendships and
performed in renowned concert halls such as the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Muziekgebouw in
Amsterdam and the Alice Tully Hall in New York. She also had the opportunity to play first viola and
perform as a soloist in a concert.
In 2016, to continue her training, she moved to Switzerland, where she began a Master of Arts in Music
Performance at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana. During this time, her interest in music
pedagogy grew, leading her to enter a second master’s programme, the Master of Arts in Music
Pedagogy, which she completed in 2022.
